QFT. Hexes are good because they shutdown + kill.

I like being a battery necro.

Tis fun, and the actual build is very flexible cuz all you really need is [skill]Blood is Power[/skill] & [skill]Blood Ritual[/skill]. The rest of the bar is whatever i feel like.

[skill]Well of Power[/skill] is also useful as a party buff in the narrow alleys of Cantha.

I hate playing as a Necro --- I understand they're a great part of the team, but I like classes like Warriors and Eles who deal damage right away.

I love to see big red -300s (Frenzy Rodgart's please?).

Spiteful Spirit + Barbs + Mark of Pain = many yellow numbers

I don't MM anymore cos I look silly walking around with 3 minions, while Olias has 10.

Red face Maybe it is not my cup of tea

Hello ello again!
Wow, it's great to see all the responses already!
I find threads like these quite interesting to read; it could be me who only finds threads like these actually interesting, but what-the-heck.
My personal take on the necromancer has been a worthwhile and a valuable experience throughout my Guild Wars game play.

My take on the necromancer is something that I doubt many people would mention. I even go as far as to say that I'm embarrassed to an extent, but the selection of armor available to the necromancer in Guild Wars influences my liking of the profession greatly. As lame as it may sound, I can't play my necromancer on hours on end unlike my monk whom I can. If I could get Vabbian, then my perception of the necromancer may change.
When I create a character, I often base my decision greatly by what armor is availabe to that profession later in the campaign(s). Why make a necromancer in the first place then? Well may answer to that is, a friend suggested that I just create one and see what it is like, and that I did. I enjoyed it to an extent, however when I progressed further in the campaigns, and it came to the point where buying new set(s) of armor was something to get onto, I realised there wasn't really many armor sets that I wanted dearly. I didn't simply delete my necromancer because of this either because I really love what the profession has to offer. Furthermore I don't regret making it, because in terms of what a necromancer can do, well like the majority of responses have stated, it is just an amazing, versatile, powerful, and useful class. I just get a little bit tired of playing it if I play it too long.
In any case, I am very grateful to my friend who suggested that I make one, because if it weren't for him, I doubt I would have ever made one.

You said it. I think that coolest thing as playing necro is that 'godlike' feel. You are most annoying people at PvP (for enemies of course). Melees hate you. Casters hate you. Even that 11-year old imteh1337superh-assasin hates you and your Spiteful Spirit + Insidious Parasite combo, which kill them faster that they shout "MOMMY!". Amazing

I love echoeing SS, and having Minions' rocks! I also enjoy the Blood builds also. I guess I just like everything about the Necro class...

i might be out of place, but i dont like necros. too easy to play for me, and really anyone for that matter. i play the game for a challenge, not to have my energy managed for me, minions to tank for me, and imba-meta breaking hexes that make me feel "leet" because i know what the difference between melee and casters are. i like classes that are a bit more in depth to play.

/end opinion

Any profession can be played with or without skill. Playing the most common Ritualist support build, which, I might add, is a very effective one, takes less skill than playing a touch ranger.

what constitutes a "good" necro? hitting SS on everything? putting insiduous on melee? not that amazing. a good resto healer will catch spikes, ward attacked foes, learn how manage spirits (if any), and how to flat out manage energy on top of it, unlike a necro.

communers, while simply spamming spirit skills, has to learn how to walk spirits, cast in safe range, and block with spirit walls. a good rit will also know how to cast the most efficient line of spirits, so that important attacks will hit what they need to hit, and manage radar cast loops.

channeling is the easiest, being so similar to an even easier class, the elementalist.

name a necro build that does anything but hit the buttons in a row, or cast arcane on an already super strong skill, just to put it on just about anthing in pve.

Tainted Flesh warder.

Effective Order of Undeath minion master.

Also, I might add that a "good" SS or SV necromancer will have to learn not only to "put SS on everything" and "put Insidious on melee". He'll have to make those hexes stick, he'll have to cover the important hexes as needed, he'll have to pre-cover if needed, and he'll have to know to target properly. Among other things.

tainted flesh warders can be played with my eyes closed, and OoU MMs, while far and few, are probably the only difficult build to play, and while diffcult, still not that great. the average team doesnt feel like the extra damage is really worth the teams effort being focused on keeping him alive. a regular MM is just as good, and there are tons of things that trigger more damage, that dont require any skill at all. but i'll admit, you have to be crazy to play OoU MM, crazy to play it, and good enough that your craziness won't kill you. btw, covering a hex in NM isnt that big of a deal, and in HM, depending on where you are, its pretty much the same. if you're that concerned, take a party wide hex, and boom, taken care of. covering every hex is a waste of time when your enemy should last less than 40 seconds.

A Tainted Flesh warder has to be able to know where the wards are most effective, when to cast them, when to use them aggressively and when to use them defensively.

If I were to talk like you I could belittle the skills required to run other builds just as harshly.

A communer spirit spammer has to "learn" how to not cast his spirits within aggro range. Boy, that's hard. Then he needs to learn to hit "Summon Spirits" to walk them around. Yay, even harder.

And that's all. Ritual Lord, Displacement, Union, Shelter, Empowerment, Mighty Was Vorizun, Boon of Creation and Summon Spirits. Good game.
